THE BEGINNING OF CPPA:

I originally started playing pool as a hobby in the summer of 2001.  I really got into it!  I started to learn about things like "ball-in-hand," "9-ball," "masse," etc.  In other words, I was ignorant of the game of pool beyond the basics of 8-ball I had played since a kid.  Basically, pool was knocking in the balls (strips or solids) and then the 8-ball and you win!   

Then in the summer of 2001, I started reading up and studying on pool, and started watching every match available on ESPN.  I even got my first table in the summer of 2001.   I bought my first cues and case, and in the fall of 2001, my wife and I joined our first league (BCA).   I really wondered why I had so seriously gotten into the hobby of pool.  I mean, it didn't seem like a very "Christian" hobby atmosphere-wise.  But God used my wife and I to speak about Jesus with other pool players.

After playing for around 6 months and seeking God's will about why I was so into this hobby, the LORD revealed to me that He had a ministry for me in ministering Christ to those who did not yet know Him.   NOTE: God didn't mind me enjoying pool either as long as I did not compromise my Christian standards.  So with pool becoming more than a hobby, but a ministry, now my excitement grew as I sought the LORD on what type of ministry He was calling me to.  Slowly, I started to see Him give me basic direction as to where to take this ministry and to call it "Christian Pool Players Association."  At that time, I did not know of any other Christian pool ministries or Christian pool players.   In the first 6 months, I  cautiously shared my vision for CPPA with a few other Christians, some I think thought I was nuts (some still do - lol), and slowly some saw I was serious about this vision the LORD had given me for CPPA.  

I then was blessed to find out other Christians and Ministries to pool players existed. So in May 2002, I went to Las Vegas, Nevada, for my first missionary trip to a large pool gathering.  I was also blessed to find out about a ministry called Gospel Trick Shot Ministries, Inc. (www.gospeltrickshot.org).  During that trip, I got to go to their Bible studies, watch their trick shot shows, witness one-on-one with amateur pool players, and meet some of the pro players - Christian and non-Christian.  Some of whom I am still friends with to this day.  In this same time period I learned about RACK - another Christian pool ministry (http://drcuepromotions.com/ministry/index) and then yet of another Christian ministry that makes Christian pool apparel (www.cue4christ.com).  Wow - Jesus cares about pool players!!!

Since our official kick off of CPPA in June 2002, we have grown to a network of members in over 40 states, plus Canada, Germany, East Germany, Scotland, and Singapore.

You will find we are a growing network around the USA and soon around the world.

I still feel we are on the beginning stages of CPPA.  We are just seeing the tip of the iceberg in what God wants to do with CPPA around the world.
